Petitioning The U.S. House of Representatives
Open Letter to Chairman of Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigation: Investigate Executive’s Mismanagement & Waste at Radio Free Asia

Petition by

Burma Media Watchdog

You, US taxpayers and listeners to the Radio Free Asia (RFA), please stand with us to request the Congress to investigate the Federal funded RFA’s unacceptable mismanagement, massive fraud, classic corruption, and outrageous scandals.
To:
The U.S. House of Representatives
Hon. Dana T. Rohrabacher, Chairman, Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigation, House of Representative
2300 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Open Letter - Concern Over the Radio Free Asia’s Ongoing Mismanagement and Corruption

The Honorable Congressman Dana Rohrabacher,

We, the undersigned US taxpayers and Burmese-American Community, request your resolute stand with us and investigate the Congress’s funded Radio Free Asia’s unacceptable mismanagement, massive fraud, classic corruption, and outrageous scandals.

Mr. Congressman as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, we would like to inform you that the RFA’s Burmese Service has evidently committed the followings:

Executive’s Mismanagement

A few months ago, five veteran reporters who specialized in human rights reporting, called for the Program Director to take action against a senior editor and staff involved in a sex scandal were abruptly terminated under an unjustified pretext of restructuring the program and work force reduction. It was an unacceptable ruling and loophole. This is one of the worst kinds of leadership’s mismanagement and a shocking violation of moral and ethical values the Director and her associates have violated.

Waste and Corruption

We have also learned that at the expense of US taxpayers, numbers of staff have been using the agency’s equipment such as telephone/fax to daily or frequently make hour-long calls to families and friends in Burma and other countries. One recorded story is the broadcaster who was having an extra-marital affair was found to be talking with the Senior Editor during the work-hours. We do not accept such kind of an insupportable waste and so much of our tax-money has been spending with no accountability, lack of transparency, and the poorest record of management.

Our disappointment is now immense. We are deeply concerned about the questionable situation surrounding the Radio Free Asia Service’s Burmese Service. As highlighted above while senior journalists, who have years of experience and served the service with distinctions were fired from their posts and replaced with new hires. On the other hand, no charge on the Senior Editor who abused power and got involved an extra-marital affair with a married subordinate.

Mr. Congressman, before too late, we respectfully urge you to undertake a careful scrutiny to ensure that our tax money is not supporting prejudice, corruption, waste, mismanagement, sex-abuses and scandals abused by the RFA’s top executives and senior editors. Furthermore, we request you to set up a special commission to conduct a full and through investigation on the radio program funded by our tax-money.

We, on behalf of all U.S. taxpayers and fellow Burmese audience of RFA in Myanmar (Burma), sincerely thank you for your extraordinary leadership, guidance, and dedication. If you have any other questions, please reach us at bmediawatch@gmail.com.

With respect and gratitude,

The Undersigned
